Dr. Kalin Kolev joined the management department at Marquette University in 2014. He received his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from Michigan State University, his MBA from The University of Tulsa, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Dr. Kolev’s research focuses on strategic decision making and risk taking under uncertainty. In particular, he examines the antecedents and consequences of major restructuring activities, such as mergers and acquisitions, diversification, and divestitures. Furthermore, Dr. Kolev studies how the complex relationships between firm executives and boards of directors shape executive compensation, the risk profile of the firm and organizational performance. Kalin’s research has been published in a number of top-tier journals and book chapters, including Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Long Range Planning and Strategic Organization.
